The last year truly was a blur as life returned mostly to normal following what seemed like a decade of disruption. As we started to connect in-person more with our customers again and attend the live events we missed, time seemed to accelerate for everyone.
Last year was also marked by significant enhancements to our products, making JupiterOne the choice for organizations that need to achieve greater visibility by making it easy and accessible to see their cyber assets across the enterprise. In this blog, we’ll take a look back at some of the biggest additions to JupiterOne in 2022. While we’re at it, we’ll shine the spotlight on some enhancements you might not have noticed thanks to our team’s rapid pace of development.
Full disclosure, our algorithm for determining what made this list is highly secret - and highly subjective! The good news is that all of our release notes are easily accessible on the JupiterOne Community.
Prioritizing critical assets
Wide-scale visibility is essential for security, compliance, and business intelligence, but it can also be overwhelming to work with all of that information. How can you be sure you’re focused on your most important assets, your ‘crown jewels,’ when you’re confronted with thousands of possibilities that all seem important?
Our Critical Assets feature, released in April, gives you a head start on identifying their crown jewels by automatically tagging certain asset classes as critical. They can then build on this foundation, adjusting which assets are indeed critical to their operations and building views, dashboards, and alerts based on these designations. By using this feature, you can focus your attention where it’s most needed, saving valuable time and resources in the process.

Understand your cyber assets better with Assessments
Continued cyber asset expansion means you’ll always need to be adjusting and examining your environment to keep pace with what you have, what’s important, and how to protect it.
Assessments gives JupiterOne users greater visibility through predefined J1QL questions. These questions can be grouped and run automatically, pulling the results into a single view to aid review and evaluation. Use one of the Assessment templates, built on key security use cases, to get started on knowing more about your environment.

New Insights Dashboards for Incident Response
Incident responders need to make sense of what happened after a breach or other security incident with speed and accuracy. Responding fast can be challenging when dealing with diverse and distributed cyber assets across an entire enterprise.
In June, we introduced our Insights Dashboards for Incident Response. Including dashboards for Cloud Instance/Workload Analysis and User Endpoint Blast Radius, these dashboards give incident responders immediate visibility across cloud assets and vital understanding about how compromised endpoints might affect the larger environment.

Getting proactive with Compliance 2.0
Compliance is a necessary consideration that’s tied closely to security in many ways. Compliance activities are also often performed reactively, with organizations doing just the bare minimum to avoid sanctions by ‘checking the box’ on regulatory requirements.
The release of Compliance 2.0 in JupiterOne changed the narrative around compliance programs, moving them from reactive practices to proactive efforts that also help organizations be more secure. Compliance 2.0 included a centralized Controls Library, enhanced mapping between controls and requirements, support for the SOC 2 framework, and a simplified interface to improve the user experience.

Integrations … and more integrations
Integrations are at the heart of building a platform that offers incredible visibility across cloud and on-premises assets. New tools and sources of information are being introduced all the time; strategically integrating with these is the key to the power and value of JupiterOne.
Over the course of 2022, JupiterOne announced integrations with some of the biggest names in technology, including Microsoft 365, Salesforce, and Google Workspaces in March, and Orca Security, Snyk, Qualys, and Veracode in April.
You can find a full list of integrations supported by JupiterOne on our website.
Starbase: Your open source home for graph-based security
Possibly the biggest release of the year for JupiterOne was the open source solution Starbase. Backed by one of the industry’s most recognized graph databases, Neo4j, Starbase collects assets and relationships from over 70 different sources. The collected data and relationships in the data are visible and queryable in an accessible, human-friendly graph view.
Starbase allows you to work directly inside the Neo4j graph database and also push the data into your JupiterOne instance, placing a wealth of valuable, contextual data at your disposal.
