What’s interesting about this update is that it wasn’t directly driven by customer requests—it came from our own experience using the product every day. As both a user and a developer, I found myself running into small frustrations that made building widgets feel more cumbersome than it needed to be. The interface felt cluttered, settings were competing for space, and navigating away from the dashboard to make edits disrupted the flow of work.
We knew we could make the experience smoother, faster, and more intuitive, so we redesigned the Widget Editor from the ground up. The result is a cleaner, more efficient workflow that keeps primary actions front and center, organizes customization options in a more intuitive way, and allows you to edit widgets without ever leaving your dashboard.
Whether you’re setting up a widget for the first time or making quick adjustments to an existing one, everything is now designed to keep you in the flow and get you to insights faster.

More Space to Focus on What Matters
One of the biggest frustrations we heard from users was that the query editor felt cramped. Writing queries—especially more complex ones—requires space, and the previous design didn’t give you enough of it. In this update, we expanded the editor horizontally, so you have more room to write and refine your queries without feeling constrained.
We also brought in JupiterOne’s search bar, the same one you use throughout the app. That means you can now generate AI-assisted queries, pull up your query history, and quickly tweak existing searches without having to start from scratch. If you’re writing queries all day, these small improvements make a huge difference in how quickly you can get to the data you need.
Less Clutter, More Flexibility
Another challenge with the old editor was that secondary actions—things like changing colors, adjusting number formats, or tweaking legends—were competing for space with the main workflow. These settings are important, but they shouldn’t be in your way when you’re just trying to build a widget.
To solve this, we moved them into a collapsible panel on the right. If you don’t need them, they stay tucked away, keeping your workspace clean and focused. But when you do need to fine-tune something, they expand vertically, giving you plenty of space to make adjustments without feeling like you’re working in a tiny, cramped section of the screen.
Stay in the Flow—No More Jumping Between Screens
One of the biggest changes in this update is how you interact with widgets. Previously, if you wanted to edit a widget, you had to leave your dashboard. That meant losing context, navigating away from the data you were working with, and constantly switching back and forth to see how changes would look.
Now, everything happens in a modal window that opens right over your dashboard. You can create and edit widgets without ever leaving the page and your changes appear instantly. No more refreshing. No more navigating away. Just a smoother, more efficient way to build the visualizations you need.
Built for You, Built for Speed
We focused on eliminating distractions, giving you more space to work, and keeping you in the flow so you can move faster and get more value from your data.
We’re excited for you to try out the new Widget Editor, and we’d love to hear what you think. Jump into JupiterOne, start building, and let us know how we can keep making it better!
